What is an herbal vaporizer or a dry herb vape as its sometimes called? In this article, I will be doing a review on the Pax 3 herbal vaporizer. With so many different types of vaping devices in the market today, how do you choose which one is right for you? Read on, and let’s find out.
What Is An Herbal Vaporizer
An herbal vaporizer is usually a vaping device strictly for the use of vaping plant substances such as cannabis, tobacco, or other herbs. Unlike most other smoking devices, which rely on combustion. Herbal vaporizers heat up and turn into a gas, which you can then inhale. But even some herbal vaporizers use combustion.
Herbal Vaporizers Come In Many Shapes And Sizes
There are many different shapes, sizes, and prices when it comes to herbal vaporizers (Dry Herb), such as the Yocan Evolve-D and the Davinci IQ. Most of the really good dry herb pens out there are quite expensive.
The Evolve-D is an excellent choice if you want to save some money and are just starting out with vaping. The Evolve-D is a portable electronic pen. It heats up fast with a decent battery life, multiple colors to choose from, and comes with a one year warranty. Here is a list of features for the Evolve-D vaporizer.
Features:
- For Dry Herbs
- Pancake-Style Atomizer
- Dual Coil
- 510 Battery Threading
- Chrome Build
- Single Button Control
- 650mAh Battery
- Compact Size
- Discreet Design
The Davinci IQ is a premium portable device. It features an exclusive Smart Path technology, which allows the user to be able to choose from 4 different temperature settings and let the device automatically set the best temperature for you. The Davinci IQ has several colors to choose from and has a 10-year warranty.
Features:
- For Dry Herbs
- Ceramic Heating Chamber
- Slim Design
- Smart Path technology
- Replaceable 18650 Davinci IQ Battery
- Precision Control
- Anodized Aluminum Casing

As you can see, the differences in the price vary greatly. So I guess it would depend on if you are a novice or seasoned vaping enthusiast when it comes to these products. The Davinci IQ has some excellent reviews. Both products will get the job done.
Herbal Vaporizers That Are Hybrids
Some herbal vaporizers are hybrids meaning you can vape materials other than dry herbs such as wax concentrates and E-liquids (Vape-Juice).
The Firefly 2+ is the only vaporizer that heats dynamically across a wide range of temperatures. With Firefly’s patented heating technology, the temperature scale moves smoothly up throughout each pull, allowing all the compounds within the plant or concentrate material to vaporize at their correct temperatures within each draw. You can vape either dry herb or concentrates with the Firefly 2+.
Features:
- 3 Second, heat up time
- 33% More Airflow than the previous model
- Easy to clean and load
- Temperature variation during inhalation with dynamic convection
- Save more of your dry herbs! It doesn’t heat herbs when not in use like conduction vaporizers
The Yocan Evolve 3 in 1 vaporizer comes with all the attachments you’ll need in one kit. Meaning, you may switch from dry herb, wax, to e-liquid easily by swapping coils. I am not a particular fan of this model because I think vaporizers function much better when they only have one or two jobs to perform.
Features:
- 3-in-1 Vaporizer (Compatible with Dry Herb, Wax, and Oil)
- Quartz Atomizers (Evolve and Evolve-C Atomizers)
- Dual Coil (Evolve and Evolve-D)
- Pen-Type Design
- Leak-Proof
- Single-Button Control

Where Is The Best Place To Purchase The Pax 3
The best place to purchase the Pax 3 vaporizer, in my honest opinion, is a company called Slickvapes. I wrote a review about this company in one of my previous articles, so be sure and check it out I will provide the link at the bottom.
The reason I say the best place to buy the Pax 3 is at Slickvapes instead of the company website (Link provided below) is that Slickvapes offers coupon codes and daily deals so you might find it at a better price. They also have excellent customer service.
My Final Opinion On The Pax 3
The Pax 3 is an excellent device, but I gave it a score of 8 out of 10 for no other reason than it is quite expensive. Other than the price, I haven’t gotten anything bad to say about this product.

Closing Thoughts
In closing, I hope you found this article helpful, and I would like to leave you with a little Trivia Question. What year was vaping first invented, and by who?
As promised, here is the link to the review I wrote about Slickvapes.

Thanks for the detailed review of the Pax 3 vaporizer. I enjoyed reading your article, and I was amazed by this kind of advancement in technology that I wasn’t aware of.
This article enlightened me about such an excellent device. But you left a question in my mind, do any of these devices have free shipping?
Hi Mugalu, thank you for the kind words, and I am glad you enjoyed reading my article. It seems they can do almost anything today with technology.
The company SlickVapes in which I purchased mine from offers FREE SHIPPING on all orders over $49.99 within the continental USA only.
Best Wishes!

Herbal vaporizers do make vaping a lot more enjoyable. I’ve not had the pleasure of trying it out for myself, but your review just struck a chord of curiosity.
I’m particularly fascinated by the Youcan Evolve-D vaporizer.
I like to think of myself as a person who enjoys trying out new things and in the process, broadening my scope. I believe the Evolve-D would do for experimental purposes.
I have to ask, though, does it make any difference that these vaporizers are not totally reliant on combustion?
Hi Iyke,
Thanks for stopping by. If you are new to vaping, I would choose one of the cheaper vaporizers for a beginner before I would purchase a more expensive one.
The Youcan Evolve-D could be an excellent choice to start with as a beginner. To answer your question Iyke the answer is no.

Great article, Dale.
When was the first vape invented? Well, I suppose that would be in 1967 by Herbert A. Gilbert if a smokeless, non-tobacco device is good enough. Then there was Hon Lik, who created a first-generation vape in 2003, which is closer to what we know today. Interesting stuff!
I never really knew how a vape worked or thought about how it could produce a scent without the help of combustion. I suppose its function would be similar to that of an essential oil diffuser except with heat.
The Pax 3 vaporizer looks very potent. Like you said, it’s very small and discreet and has a nice look to it. It may be expensive, but I suppose you get what you pay for.
Thanks for this informative article. I do have one question, though: do you know what some of the most popular herbs to use in a vape are?
Isaac
Hi Isaac,
Congratulations, you did a great job of answering the trivia question.
Exactly, Isaac, its function is similar to that of an essential oil diffuser except with heat. Yes, I really like the Pax 3 all but the price (LOL). But as you stated, you get what you pay for.
Some of the most popular herbs to use in a vape and why are as follows.
Thyme: Gastric issues
Basil: Relaxation
Lemon Balm: Blood circulation, sleep
Damiana: Urinary infections, Menstrual cramps
Eucalyptus: Upset stomach, Cold, or Lung infection
Peppermint: Nausea
Lavender: Pain relief, Insomnia, And Relaxation
Hops: Tension, and Excitability
Kava Root: Muscle relaxant, Anxiety
Raspberry Leaf: Cold, and Sore throat
Cannabis: Anxiety, Pain

What an eye-opener about the newer vapes available! I can’t even imagine one as small as a pen – that is AWESOME!!! So portable and concealable that nobody would be the wiser. Of course, the other side of my brain is leaning towards the PAX 3 with ALL of its plusses! I think I would want one of each – one for when I’m away from home and want something super portable and the PAX 3 to enjoy at home. Thank you for showcasing all of these super sleek models!
Hi Feochadan,
I hope you are doing well. Yes, vaporizers come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes these days. The Pax-3 is an excellent product, but I totally get your point about having one vape for the road and the Pax-3 to relax with when you are at home. You are very welcome, and thanks for stopping by.
Best Wishes!

Hi Dale,
I had no idea there was such a thing as an herbal vaporizer, or that there were so many models to choose from! Your reviews are very detailed and helpful, I will certainly consider the Pax3 vaporizer for my partner who is interested in trying the CBD oil. I’ll be sending him to your site to read about it as there is a lot of useful information. Thank you 😊
Hi Gigi,
There are many different kinds of vaporizers. Some do herbal and concentrates, while others do oils such as CBD and e-juice. The Pax-3 is an excellent product, but if your partner wants to try CBD oils, he might want to look into using a different product.
I wrote another post where I describe the different kinds of vaping devices and what they are used for, which you mind find helpful. Here is the link for that post. https://prosperingwithcbd.com/is-slick-vapes-legit-slick-vapes-review/

Thanks so much for that review. It really amazes me how technological vaping pens have become in such a short period of time. I would agree that getting the entire kit, though pricey, is the better option. That ill be an easy choice for me because it is obviously a quality product with a 10 year warranty.
I notice that cleaning with isopropyl alcohol is recommended. I used to clean my cannabis pipes with isopropyl alcohol but once dry would soak in water to insure all residue was removed. Seeing how isopropyl alcohol is a flammable liquid, I can see that heating anything cleaned with it though dry, could burn off some unhealthy residue.
Would dipping the alcohol cleaned parts of the Pax 3 briefly in water and then dried harm the parts in any way? It’s an added step I always took for my pipes to insure no dried alcohol residue. To answer your trivial question, vaping actually got its start in ancient Egypt with the Shisha Pipe or Hookah, but I think someone named Gilbert vaped in the 60s or 70s.
Hi Robert,
You’re welcome, and thanks for stopping by. I don’t consider myself a technological kind of person, but I agree with you; it does amaze me how far things have advanced over the years.
The Pax-3 is indeed a little pricey, but it is a great product and works exceptionally well. And having the 10-year warranty certainly helps make the price of the Pax-3 a little bit easier to justify the cost.
Robert, I understand your concern about isopropyl alcohol, leaving a residue on the cleaned parts; however, the alcohol should evaporate once the pieces are dried.
But if it is a concern for you, I honestly don’t think it would harm anything to dip the cleaned parts in water after cleaning them with the alcohol as long as you dried them thoroughly afterward. I would use distilled water to be on the safe side.
Robert, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my trivia question, I thought it might be interesting and fun. Yes, other than the ancient Egyptians. A man by the name of Joseph Robinson came up with the idea of an E-cigarette back in 1927, but it was Herbert Gilbert who made vaping popular in 1963. In the mid-2000s, a Chinese firm made the first modern e-cigarette.
